<p style='text-align: justify;'> Christ is being baptized by John in the River Jordon as angels look on. Orthodox belief dictates that mysticism and the Holy Spirit should take precedence over everyday reality. The abstracted river seems to float around Him. In the image, Christ is not covered by the water, indicating he is not effected by the natural order. Note that the hands of the angels are covered. In ancient times, hands were covered to symbolize one's involvement in sacred events, the humility in participating and touching what is supremely divine. </p>
