Mary Jane Miller : Magdalene Fisher of Woman

Miller, Mary Jane

Mary Jane Miller

Another unnamed female priestess stands on a fisherman's net. The net catches life and is symbolic of what surrounds us. She is the "fisher of women". She is a prophet and priestess holding the book of sacred text and a monstrance with the spirit of Christ within. I was asked to participate in creating an image for the Duc In Altum Museum in Magda near Jerusalem. It has been named the Boat Chapel. By Nov 2023, the committee has not selected an image of Mary Magdalene in the town she is known for. This was the image I suggested. The work was not selected. I was aware of what this image could mean for women. I know many women who are prophets and priestesses acting in their daily lives as professionals, mothers, contemplatives, teachers, and mystical thinkers.
