For me, iconography is both an artistic and a spiritual practice. Each brushstroke is a prayer, each image a testament to the beauty and mystery of the divine. "

Artist's Statement

As an iconographer and sacred artist, my work is rooted in the ancient traditions of Byzantine iconography. My artistic journey is both spiritual and creative, as I seek to capture the essence of the divine through the interplay of color, light, and form. Using a unique technique of painting icons on glass with Alkyd-based paints, I achieve a luminous stained-glass effect that renders each piece radiant and transparent, particularly when viewed in sunlight.

Technique and Inspiration

Inspired by the rich heritage of Byzantine iconography, I have developed a distinctive approach that blends traditional methods with modern materials. Painting on glass allows me to explore the delicate dance of light and color, creating an ethereal depth as if the image itself is radiating from within. This technique brings a new dimension to the sacred art of iconography, offering viewers a window into the divine.

Challenges and Solutions

While the transparent beauty of my icons is striking in person, capturing their full effect through photography has been a challenge. Issues such as lighting, reflections, and the intricate luminosity of the glass have posed difficulties, even with the assistance of professional photographers. I am currently exploring innovative ways to overcome these obstacles and present my work in its true, radiant form.

Favourite Icon

Among the many icons that inspire me, Mary with Baby Jesus holds a special place in my heart. The tender intimacy between mother and child speaks to the deepest aspects of human experience - love, compassion, and the sacred bond between generations.

Artistic Journey

My journey as an iconographer has been one of continual growth, deepening both my artistic skills and spiritual understanding. Each icon I create is not merely a piece of art but a sacred object, designed to draw the viewer into contemplation and invite them to encounter the divine. Through my work, I strive to create windows into the mystical world of the sacred.

Influences and Style

While my work is deeply influenced by the Byzantine tradition, I strive to infuse each icon with my own perspective and creativity. My style is marked by delicate lines, vibrant colors, and a sense of ethereal lightness, all of which combine to create an otherworldly quality that speaks to the soul.

Spiritual Significance

For me, iconography is both an artistic and a spiritual practice. Each brushstroke is a prayer, each image a testament to the beauty and mystery of the divine. My work is not just about creating beautiful images, but about inviting the viewer into a deeper spiritual experience.
